Although he and the few surviving separatists had strong philosophical opposition toward the Thorn Valley group, they kept their distance, still believing that their way of life was better. In the sequel, it is revealed that Jenner had started a family, which Racso happens to be a part of.
Jenner later makes a surprise appearance in the story and shows that despite his questionable loyalties, he cares strongly for his son. Some readers feel that the inclusion of Jenner as an antihero was heavily influenced by the film adaptation of the first book, The Secret of NIMHin which Jenner played a much more central role than he did in the book.
However, Jenner only turns up rarely in the book, mainly in flashbacks, and is killed off-page during the climax. Examples of this include Jeremy's more whimsical personality and Mrs.
Timmy to the Rescue. It had to be done.
Racso and the Rats of Nimh (Rats of Nimh, book 2) by Jane Leslie Conly
Maybe, if the author really wanted to write a book about hyperintelligent rodents, she could have used Mr. O'Brien's universe, yet let enough years go by that she writes about different rats. Timothy, for example, is too perfect a mouse to be very interesting, and the leader Nicodemus is often a tedious moralizer.
Racso, on the other hand, is most appealing when he gets into trouble. Frisby, Jeremy and Mr.
Ages are unfortunately peripheral racso and the rats of nimh in this story. Along the way Timothy meets a young rat called Racso who tells Timothy that he too is on his way to Thorn Valley. He wants to join the colony founded by the super intelligent rats of Nimh because he wants to learn how to read and write.
Someday Racso wants to become a great scientist and a hero.
